Various Types Of Rat Traps That You Can Use

There is a big selection of rat traps out there, but not all work properly. There are some things to do that will result in a successful result. These are selecting the proper one for you, baiting it the right way and positioning it in such a way that rats can get caught.

There are two main types of rat traps that people use, no-kill and snap traps. No-kill traps are essentially cages that have a trigger on the bottom in the back which closes and latches, trapping the rat inside. You will be able take the rat far away from your home, and release it into the wild. With these traps, it is advisable to leave them open but not rigged for a few nights to get the rat to trust the cage and think of it as a place to go to eat. When you do rig it to trap the rat, make sure that it is done effectively, as the rat won’t trust it to be trapped again if it escapes because it wasn’t effectively latched. If you are not considering releasing the rat right away, make sure you have water made available to the rat.

The other most used type of humane trap that are used for rat extermination is a snap trap. This one was created to kill the rat immediately when the mechanism is triggered. Because of the danger these pose to pets and young children, careful attention should be used when using this type of trap. This trap requires you to clean up dead rats, so be prepared if you are squeamish. You will have to place this trap in a place that the rat will feel safe eating, which is usually along a wall or somewhere dark and covered. You can also bait the trap for a few days without it being set if you want, but it is not as required for this trap. However, you should test the trap before using long stick to trigger it to be sure that it is functioning properly. Again, if you don’t catch the rat the first time, the rat can become suspicious and is not likely to try the bait again.

Rats are not that picky, so you can use just about anything for your bait. But rats would be certainly be more attracted by food with a strong odor. With the snap trap, just use a tiny bit of bait on the triggering mechanism, and ensure it stays in place. Raccoon traps work the same wayUsing too much or a big chunk of cookie might cause it to fall off, and your rat would trigger beforehand.
