After arriving, many Miao people had trouble bringing their ancient customs to this modern, western land. In Laos, it’s legal for a man to have several wives at the same time, but after they got to America, they had to choose one wife and divorce the others.

Many Miao men had the tradition of “kidnapping” a woman then informing the family of their intent for marriage. Obviously in the US that kind of thing is not allowed, so many Miao men found themselves in more than a little trouble.

I came across a completely unbelievable story today, something that absolutely shocked me to the core. Easy Jet have allegedly told a woman that she cannot fly because she is too fat, and that if she wanted to, then she would have to buy herself two tickets to support her.

This was really an eye catching article, and i needed to read more into it. I carried on and, then i saw something truly astonishing. Basically the woman had booked a flight with Easy Jet and was waiting to board the flight. She was stopped from getting on the plane and was asked in-front of all the other passengers to step on to some scales! They weighed her and she came to a total of 15 and a half stone (98 kilograms), and then proceeded to tell her that she was “too fat to travel, and would need to buy another ticket to board the plane”.

I have friends that weigh in at around 15 stone, now they aren’t overweight, they are tall and well built. What if a tall rugby player were to come through, they can weigh up to 19 stone. The problem that really shocks me is how this procedure was carried out, there was dignity spared for this woman.

Quite literally she was marched onto the scales in front of everyone. What a complete and utter disgrace. And this woman is now taking legal action against the airline and quite rightly as well. I really don’t understand what was going through the boarding lady’s head when she told this woman she was too fat.

Should airlines be allowed to get away with this? The problem is that when discrimination comes into this the airlines will soon have to build bigger seats to support the larger man or woman. What they certainly shouldn’t be doing is humiliating and embarrassing potential future customers and current customers as they have done in this situation.
