ESPN says that Tiger put Lawton in touch with his agent, Mark Steinberg, when the Woods/Lawton affair was sniffed out by the National Enquirer. Tiger still says that “If more people would have known in my inner circle, they would have stopped it or tried to put a stop to it.” If putting a stop to it meant that Tiger’s people and the Enquirer make a deal to buy off silence and an interview exclusive for Men’s Fitness, sister publication, as Lawton says, then yes, Tiger’s people stopped it.

Tiger Woods gave an interview to Men’s Fitness in August 2007, but the magazine denies any kind of special arrangement, as Mindy Lawton claims. Yet ESPN points out that “a former Men’s Fitness editor-in-chief told the New York Post in December that the cover story was in exchange for silence regarding any affairs.” What is Steinberg saying about all of this? Nothing so far to Vanity Fair or ESPN, and Woods buddy Byron Bell – who allegedly arranged travel so mistress Jamie Jungers could play with Tiger – is similarly mum.

The Masters plan to keep rowdier elements away when Tiger returns to golfing April 8, but Joslyn James won’t be stopped from shaking all she’s got, just a stone’s throw away. It’s actually closer to three hours away in Atlanta, but Steinberg can swing easy transportation.
