Is It Ever Going To Rain?

It’s been the driest month in England since the mid 1920’s and we haven’t seen a drop of rain in some counties for months now. What’s happened to the British summer? It’s hot, sunny and not raining, which must be confusing most people in the country.

Normally we’d all be complaining that it’s not hot enough, it’s too wet and we want a proper summer. Well in 2010 we’ve gotten that hot summer we always pretend we want, and up till now we’ve spent it complaining (it’s too hot, too humid and it needs to rain).

Recent weather reports have suggested that the dry spell is set to continue, as it the hot weather, so it looks like we’ll be needing those fans for a little while longer. Not to agree with people who’ve been complaining, but it is generally too hot in the office. If our new prime minister wasn’t hell bent on making cuts, i’d suggest a country-wide campaign to get an air purifier and air conditioning system in every office and home in the country.

Some places in England are so worried about the dry spell, they’ve bought up the classic British solution; the hosepipe ban. Have we ever actually run out of water in this country? Even in the 1920’s did that happen? If in this day and age we can’t survive one summer without panicking about losing all our water and banning anything that even remotely dribbles the stuff, we’re not doing too well. We all know it will do nothing but rain for months once Christmas rolls around again and we’ll all be huddled round the patio heaters whining about the cold and wishing it was summer.

Right, enough complaining about the weather, I’m off to buy a dehumidifier and enjoy the World Cup final in comfort, even if England are back in the country.
