In Sacramento this morning, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced a state of emergency in Kern County. The Tehachapi fire, which is officially known as the West Fire, is 25 percent contained. The Bull Fire isn’t doing also with 5 percent having been contained. Because there is a State of Emergency, cash-strapped California will be able to pay for firefighters and containment of these fires. Article resource – West Fire, Tehachapi Fire and others spur state of emergency.

Tehachapi fire info

Tuesday was when the Tehachapi fire started around a small community which is only 10 miles south of Tehachapi. Old West Ranch residents had to leave following the fire started. West Fire is the name of the ranch that split and formed the community, which is why the fire was named that. The fire started with people who were cutting scrap metal with a grinder in dry grass. 40 homes and 1,400 acres were burned. 150 other homes have had to evacuate.

Facts on the Bull Fire

The Bull Fire, centered north of Kernville, Calif., is presently burning almost 16,000 acres. When the fire began, it right away burned eight homes and six outbuildings down. The fire has hurt two firefighters so far. The reason for the Bull Fire has yet to be determined, and it is only about 5 percent contained.

Budgeting wildfires

Fire fighting is more expensive in budget-strapped California. Now it is harder than ever to sacrifice the human cost and financial cost. Fighting a big fire can cost anywhere from $1 million to $2.5 million a day. In wildfire fighting, in one year typically more than $500 million is spent. Numerous agencies are responsible to pay these costs in California. The majority of the cost is carried by the California state spending budget. This is just the cost of fighting the fire — never mind the damages to property and lands. The State of Emergency means that California can spend the money before they actually know where the money is coming from.

A competition among states for more than $ 3 billion in federal education reform grants is called Race to the Top. In the second round of the contest, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan declared Wednesday that 18 states and Washington D.C. as finalists. Finalists for instance California confident various school district to cooperate with the grant application. Losers like Nevada had politicians blaming each other and using the occasion to blast big government. Source of article – Race to the Top finalists compete for federal education grants by Newystype.com.

Race to the Top grants total $ 3.4 billion

Delaware and Tennessee received $ 100 million and $ 300 million respectively for winning the first round of Race to the Top in March. In the second phase, the Department of Education will hand out $ 3.4 billion for education reform. Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and South Carolina advance within the second round. In August each state will send representatives to compete in the interview phase of the competition. In September winners will be announced.

Education reform – “a quiet revolution”

Duncan called the program part of “a quiet revolution” in education reform in a speech to the National Press Club in Washington, where he announced the Race to the Top finalists. Race to the Top supporters say the biggest accomplishment of the program is that it motivates states to take on controversial reforms before spending any cash. The Department of Education Reform said 23 states have passed education reform laws around things like charter schools and teacher evaluations to improve their chances of winning funds since Race to the Top was announced.

California cooperation helps it advance

California became a Race to the Top finalist after finishing out of the money within the first round. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that across the state, 300 local school districts and county offices of education signed on to the Race to the Top application, agreeing to implement the reforms it outlined. California’s application, which highlighted what districts are already doing to turn around struggling schools, evaluate and support teachers and principals, and measure student performance, was written by superintendents from seven school districts.

Nevada politicians blame each other for failure

Nevada paid a consultant $ 40,000 to write its unsuccessful Race to the Top application. Fox News Las Vegas reported that an orgy of finger-pointing ensued upon Nevada’s failure to reach the finals. Republican Governor Jim Gibbons was accused of a “lack of leadership” by Democratic Senator Harry Reid. Gibbons said Reid never “lifted a finger” to help the state compete. Even though she wants less federal involvement in schools and has called for eliminating the Department of Education, right wing candidate for Senator Sharon Angle piled on Reid after Nevada was left out in the cold .

In Southwest Michigan, a state of emergency has been announced in response to the Kalamazoo River oil leak. On Monday morning, a leak in a large pipe sent almost 20,000 barrels of oil to the river. The oil slick is proving difficult to control, though the EPA and Enbridge Energy are working to control it. Resource for this article – Kalamazoo River oil spill headed for Lake Michigan by Personal Money Store.

The oil spill of the Kalamazoo River

The pipeline was shut down relatively quickly, but the reason for the leak isn’t really known. The pipeline operator is estimating that there were 800,000 or more gallons of oil dumped into the river. The oil slick is quickly moving the 60 miles between the Kalamazoo River and Lake Michigan. Residents are already reporting heavy fumes and oil-coated wildlife along the waterways.

Restitution from Enbridge Energy promised

As outlined by spokespeople for Enbridge Energy, the business will “do all it can to minimize the spill’s impact on communities.” The 30-inch pipeline was used to carry crude oil from Griffith, Ind., to Sarnia, Ontario. Governor Jennifer Granholm, among others, has questioned dedication to the clean-up. Enbridge has estimated the spill was 819,000 gallons of oil – experts say it might be over 1 million gallons. The cleanup will probably cost in the range of various hundred million dollars .

Will the spill need the EPA’s help

The EPA has been asked to come help clean up the Kalamazoo River oil spill. There are significant concerns about the Kalamazoo River Superfund cleanup site. PCBs found within the cleanup site could interact with the gasoline fumes. Toxic fumes could possibly be created by this combination. The EPA is certain to have some kind of involvement, either financial or regulatory, within the cleanup.

Free soccer training drills

I will not force you to agree, but I would like to give some advices. During free soccer training drills, the best strategy is to keep the ball rolling within your own players, watching a loop hole in the defense of the opposite team in order to attack. These skills can easily be imparted to the new players, if, during the soccer coaching drills, the coaches would follow the tips we are going to mention in the following sections.

Match winning strategy: keep the defenders busy by throwing the ball from one side to the other, and attack the goal in between. Moving the ball from one to another player within the team helps reducing the stress.

The Fast switch or the Blind Pass: Teach one or two mid-fielders to throw the blind pass by moving the ball using right foot, and hitting it to the left.Rapid Switching or the Blind Pass: Develop a skill in one or two mid-fielders to move the ball with right foot while kicking it to the left, showing almost a blind pass. Left-footed mid-fielder, can perform the trick by moving the ball using the left foot and throwing it back to the right side using left foot.

The defender on the other side will not be expecting the pass and your team can catch the opposing team sleeping.

Soccer Drills

All the players should always be ready for this type of pass so ask your team to regularly perform the technique. Of all the soccer drills, your kids may find this drill rather difficult but it is it’s competitive nature that guarantees player’s total participation in soccer practice.

This drill requires six small goals on either side of the pitch. The team scores where the player runs through the goals which are placed in the middle, while playing from the back. Passing through the last goals will yield two points and will encourage switching.

While having free soccer training drills, ensure that the goals are quite wide so that it is clear that it is useless merely placing a player between then in order to stop a run or pass. Choose one player who runs from goal A to B. When the players are between the goals, attackers won’t be able to attack and goal.

Young defenders usually move away from their designated positions. They tend to move to the point, where the ball is being played. Hence the defenders can be caught by surprise if the mid fielders learn to identify the opportunity areas and move the play on the other side of the field.

During following sessions of football drills, try to teach them to cover the entire width of the ground. Teach them the skills and rehearse a few moves with them to let them know where the attacking threat might come from.

As now you have the complete information, remember to include these trainings to your free soccer training drills, so your players are always ready and the opposition mid-fielders find it difficult to catch your defenders out.
